Use of electronic devices in the secondary classroom

Many schools currently have a policy prohibiting the use, and sometimes even the possession, of electronic devices on high school campus. Research shows that some students actually learn better and concentrate better when they listen to music. Cell phones are no just toys but are tools as they are equipped with many functions that are useful in today's modern classroom. What are some of those uses and site the souce where you ontained the information.

  1. iPods and phones have a built-in calculater function and most phones have a calander where you can put in information on the calander and your phone will send you a notification on that certain day. You can access the internet from your phone. Some phones have map apps where you can look up directions. Some phones also have dictonaries which can come in quite useful when there may not be a dictonary in the classroom. Also some dictonaries dont have certian words you want to look up.

  2. using it for an IM to a teacher or to use the camera for still images or videos to store data and record data. you could use the internet on it to check an email that you are keeping inn touch with a teacher for help on homework or getting ur homework over internet. you could send a message to someone who is sick and tell them what the homework is or let them know about the lesson you learned. the camera can record experiment data so you have test results or you coould use it for a video presentation

  3. phones and mp3 player help in the classroom in many cases. for instance phones have calculators that are almost or just as good as some of the top ones out there. phones also have calenders much like the planers these also work well you can keep dates for test and things for class in the phone and it automatically alerts you when that day comes! it is very useful. Mp3 players also work in the classroom for plenty reasons they help students concentrate, or if they need a rest, they can take a break with their music.

  4. I feel it should be up to the teacher if cell phones, mp3 players, and many more electronical devices, the teacher should have the say not the school board or the principal. When teachers try to solve the problem, for example they put on classical music or other music but clearly students would rather listen to different types of music for everyone is different. We should have the freedom to use these devices under the permission of the teacher. Were I got my information,

  5. Our technology today has a lot of useful tools we can use. Such as Ipods, you can put podcasts on them and listen to the lectures or any information you need. Cell phones also have a lot of useful tools. You can use a calculator for math, it's calendar you can use for a daily planner, a notepad to take notes on the go, and a stop watch to time how long it takes to do a experiment. You can also use the internet on the phone, which allows you to research important information on the subject your studying, instead of running to the computer room.

  6. The text message and alarm functions can remind you of homework and test dates. Also, video and recording sound plays a role in helping you go back and study such as notes. The bluetooth network capabilaties makes for easy information sharing. One principal said that he people use them in everyday life and he doesn't see way he cant bring that into the classroom. 9. cell phones or electronics are very usefull tools when it come to classrooms. you can use the internet on cell phones to look up information you may need in a class. Ipods and phones sometimes have calculaters which can help with any math that you may have to do in some of your classes. Listening to music helps me concentrate on work which is a good reason to have mp3s and ipods in a classroom environment

  10. using an ipod during school while doing work is helpful. it makes you consintrate more on your work and not talk. when we listen to our music we dont talk and we get what we need to get done. them not letting us listen to them sucks. they are taking it away and making us talk more and not get our work done. they should let us listen to them

  11. Listening to iPods or MP3's is a very helpful tool in school. When you are listening to music you can saty focused on oyur work and not on the comversation around you. When people are talking across the room(and you know they will)its very easy to get caught up in their conversation and not your own work. Cell Phones can be a good reminder on a important test or it can remind you to study. Yes, they can be distracting at times, but if used the right way they can really help.

  12. electronics in the class room aren't bad things but when people use then for the wrong reasons thats when they are bad but cell phones, ipods, and some mp3 players keep dates beacuse they have calanders cell phones have caculators to help out and when most kids have music it keeps them busy and concentratded. so instead of talking to other people they shut up listen to the music and do they're work.... well i do... music helps me out i dont think electronics are a bad thing in the class room

  13. I think that music does help students. Sometimes the classroom may be loud and u want to do ur work. Then there is many distactions that you hear. People can block them out by listening to music. Also if teacher play music it will calm students down so there relaxed and can perform better in the class room....... :p

  15. When students listen to their i-pod they seem to do more work and are able to concentrate more. With cell phones, kids can easily be distracted. When kids text they get off track. So really i think that i-pods should be allowed, but cell phones should still be prohibited.

  20. iPods and cell phones aint just used too mess around with. They are used for tools in the classroom. . .u could put upcoming events in the phone, teachers cell phone #'S, and etc. Using iPods in school will keep kids on track in their classes and keep them from distracting other kids in their learning enviroment. SO LET US HAVE EM!!!

  21. i think ipods and phones should be aloud in school because research shows those that listen to music help them concentrate more then those that dont.. phones provide us alot of useful features in today's society such as: calanders, calculators, and stop watches which can all be very helpful in school. one problem most people will see with the phones is that it can be used to cheat with but as long as the teachers collect the phones before test i see no problem with phones and ipods being used in school.

  23. Electtronic devices can be relativelyuseful in class. MP3's can be a good concentration tool for some people. Cell Phones have an array of useful tools ranging from calculators, voice recorders to calendars for tracking dates of assignments.

  24. I think that it would be a good idea to let kids have ipods and phones. the ipod could help the kids stay on track and phones could help kids remember assignments and tests.

  25. The board policy says that we can not have cell phones and mp3s in class because they are a distraction. In a classroom, there are many things that can distract us. Something moving around us, a noise, even other people in the classroom. Mp3s can help us from listening to other people in the classroom talking or weird noises. Some Mp3s have a calculator on them and so do some cell phones. This can come in handy if there isn't enough calculators for everyone or if the teacher simply doesn't have any. We can pull out our phones and do the math that we need to do. In studies, scientists have found that when people listen to music while doing something, it is easier for them to concentrate. This is true for me as well. When I have my Mp3 on and I can't hear my classmates carrying on conversation I am more capable of doing my own work and focusing on what it is that I am doing.

  27. I know that i certainly work better with music, i can't concentrate with out it. cell Phones can be used in place of school planners, if you do science fair and need pictures you can use them, there are hundreds of purposes, especially if you have apps added, then you can do a multitude of things, including viewing this blog from anywhere, so if you miss a class you can simply conference call in, the only trouble is when not every one has one. BTW: you spelled "not" wrong Ms. Striegel
